My husband has been playing the Witcher 3 and wanted something to knit for him relating to that game. He has a huge water bottle/tumbler that he drinks from at work that needed this cozy.
When playing the Witcher there are 5 signs used to cast spells– my tumbler has only four. This is a quick knit using size 5 needles, Caron Simply Soft yarn in black, and then colored scraps to duplicate knit the signs.
Cast on 48 stitches.
Row one K1P1 to the end.
Rows 2-6: repeat row one
Knit 14 rows in stockinette stitch.
Repeat row 1 for 6 more rows.
Bind off loosely in pattern.
Using duplicate stitch sew the following chart onto your cozy:
One way to help the shape of your signs change from pointing up and down is to actually offset by half a stitch so that when you’re doing a up-pointing sign the stitches are all pointing up like this ^. When making a down pointing sign, once again offset by half a stitch so you’re using down-pointing stitches that look like V’s.
You can see the shapes of the stitches for this in each photo. I used a chunkier yarn for yellow and blue that didn’t make as pretty of a shape, but they worked. I prefer how my yellow and red signs pictured at top turned out. I’m still working at getting neater at my duplicate stitch.
