This is a pattern for the 999 Project. 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors is a visual novel and puzzle game for the Nintendo DS. The 3rd in it’s series has been announced for next year.
One of the more entertaining characters to be found in the first 2 games is Clover. She contributes to one of the best/worst endings in 999. She also wears some cute leg warmers with fun pink pom-poms! You know you want them!
These leg warmers are a quick make. You will need:
- the 31 peg plastic loom and hook (Note: you could make this on a smaller loom if you wanted it for smaller calves. They’re quite bulky looking on Clover, so I liked using this bigger size.)
- a yarn needle
- white, grey and black fuzzy yarn. I used Angel Hair by Purl Essence Luxery. This is going on clearance where I live, so I don’t know how much longer it will be available
- pink yarn for pompoms. I used Caron Simply soft– it’s one of their brighter pinks, but I don’t remember the name of the color.
- a crochet hook the right size for you pink yarn
This is all knit in the round. Begin by casting on all pegs.
Round 1: Begin with your white yarn. Purl all pegs. Repeat round one until you have 5 inches of purl stitch.
Put the first row back on the pegs (the same way you would make a rim on a hat) and knit over each peg. Cut your white yarn leaving a few inches of yarn.
Round 2: Make a slip knot with your grey yarn and put it on your first peg. E-wrap all the way around and knit over.
Round 3: Purl all the way around.
Repeat rounds 2 and 3 until you have about 8 inches of grey. How long you want your leg warmers my vary. I’m 5’8, so I made mine quite long. Cut your grey yarn leaving a couple inches of yarn tail.
Make a slip knot with your black yarn and E-wrap all the way around (assuming you ended on a purl row). Alternating the e-wraps and purls makes a bulky knit fabric, perfect for these leg warmers.
Continue to repeat rounds 2 and 3 in black yarn now until you have about 5 inches of black.
Bind off all pegs.
After you bind off, you will notice a little notch between the first and last peg. Just use a yarn needle to thread the yarn tail from the last peg and sew it into the first peg’s stitch. Weave in the tail and the notch will be gone. Also, there may be a couple of small holes where you switched colors. No worries. Tie the two yarn tails together and then weave in the ends.
Make the second leg warmer the same as the first.
Now you need to make your pom-pom ties. I made mine by making a simple crochet chain until it was long enough to tie around my calf. If you do not know how to crochet, you can simply braid some yarn instead.
Make 4 pom-poms. There are a variety of ways to do this. I like the fork method myself (but you need a very large fork to make the size of pom-pom’s pictured.)
Now, attach a pom pom to one end of the crochet chain and thread the other end on your yarn needle. Using the needle, “sew” your chain through the white section on the bottom of the inside so the pink does not show on the outside. Attach your other pompom when this is done and you have a tie to keep your leg warmers up!
